The announcement that the Irish Minister for Finance has resigned from that position and his Dáil seat comes as little surprise.
O’Donoghue put the interests of domestic and foreign capital before the needs of the Irish people, especially the needs of the working class and family farmers resulting in increased profits for the few and increased poverty for the majority.
He will take up a position with the World Bank in Washington, as Managing Director and Chief Knowledge Officer.
The World Bank has since it’s inception been a vehicle for maintaining and reinforcing the dominance of US monopoly capital. It has imposed savage austerity, increased poverty and inequality, destroyed public services, forced privatisation of public services and national resources as it facilitated the transfer of wealth to the capitalist class in the NATO/EU bloc. It has also been central to global attack and destruction of workers rights.
Paschal O ‘Donohoe has overseen the housing crisis that has impacted on thousands of families. The governments in which he has served have enforced austerity cuts in public services, a collapsing health service, privatisation.
He is just another Irish flunky establishment figure being rewarded by his masters for enforing the dictats of Brussels, Washington and London. Statement ends
