Message of solidarity to Cuba
The Communist Party of Ireland condemns in the strongest terms the ongoing attempts by the US government to use their economic and military power to force a number of countries to withhold support for the UN General Assembly Resolution against the illegal US blockade of Cuba.
Coming as it does when the US is threatening Venezuela and has financed and directed the zionist genocide in Gaza, this attempt by US imperialism shows their contempt for independence, democracy and international law.
We call on the Irish government and all forces in Ireland that support democracy, respect for other countries sovereignty and international law to condemn this latest US tactic in its ongoing campaign against Cuba.
We once again express our profound solidarity with Cuban people and government who are experiencing daily the impact of this illegal US blockade. They have, and continue, to show great courage and sacrifice to defend their sovereignty and independence.
The Cuban people need political as well as the material solidarity and support of the Irish government and the people of Ireland.
The Irish government needs to transform words spoken in the UN into concrete material action to break this illegal blockade. As a first step they must vote against the continuing blockade of Cuba.
