Over the course of 2024, the Communist Party of Ireland continued its solidarity with the people of Cuba. On the streets, in cultural and social spaces and in the media, Irish Communists solidarity campaign celebrated the victories of the Cuban revolution and its people, raising awareness of the continuing economic aggression of the United States, and the damage it causes for the lives of Cubans.
On 26th of July, members mobilised in a country-wide effort to fly the flag of The July 26th Movement and revolutionary Cuba. In Dublin the CPI built upon their now annual rally on the Ha’penny bridge–with banners, flags, leaflets and Party members engaging in conversations with the public, Cuban solidarity prominently featured in the public eye. In Armagh, the Party organised a film screening followed by political discussion; in Monaghan the Betty Sinclair branch staged a candle lit vigil. Members in Cork and Belfast took part in solidarity events.
The year also saw a number of fundraising events across Dublin – a Cuban Film Festival in the Pearse Centre, a social event in Connolly Books and a Table Quiz in the Teachers Club. From a number of internal discussions organised by members, to a series of articles in the Socialist Voice, awareness about the inhumane blockade has been raised, and strategies developed on fighting it from Ireland.
Last night a cheque was delivered to the Cuban ambassador Bernardo Guanche at the Cuban embassy in Dublin.
Long live the Cuban Revolution!
Long live Socialist Cuba!
