Statement by the Communist Party of Ireland
18 November 2019
Representatives of the Communist Party of Ireland met the Nicaraguan ambassador to Ireland, Guisell Morales-Echaverry, in Dublin today. The ambassador gave an update on developments in Nicaragua and in the region, where democratic social, political and economic changes continue apace.
The ambassador also expressed concern about the continuing efforts by the United States to overthrow progressive governments in the region and to reverse the democratic advances of the oppressed peoples and countries of the region. She expressed grave concern about the fascist coup in Bolivia, and the lack of condemnation of the coup by the European Union and its client states.
The CPI confirmed its commitment to building solidarity with Nicaragua as well as with Venezuela and Cuba. The delegations agreed on the negative role played by both the ultra-left and the liberal left.
